White Plume Moth. Photo: Mark Pike
The foodplant for the caterpillars of this very distinctive moth is bindweed, so if anybody pulls a face at the bindweed in your garden, just tell them you grow it specially for the White Plume moth! Mark caught this one in his moth trap at Motcombe, near Shaftesbury, on 25/06/2017.

Found a pair of these yesterday in my Polly tunnel. One look landed on my cheek..
I saw one for the first time today. I disturbed its root plant while doing some gardening. I couldn’t believe its wings, I thought at first I might have damaged the poor thing. But while I was try to get a photo for identification, and it got annoyed with me harassing it so it eventually flew off.
I had one in my bedroom on 3rd July. I live in north east England. Checked on internet to ensure it was safe as hadn’t come across one before. Took a make up bag put it underneath it. Didn’t want to hurt it as it looked so delicate, it hopped on the bag and I carried it gently to the window. I felt so blessed to have seen one!
