Two more photos from Mark taken at Motcombe Meadows on 05/07/2023 and sent in with the following comments:
The top photo shows a fresh Red Admiral ab. ocellata (note the two white dots in the red of the forewings) and the other photo shows two Small Skippers – a male (bottom) and female (top) which might be handy to show the difference between the two.
Paul sent in these photos, both taken yesterday 20/06/2023 telling us:
Small Skippers are now very abundant on East Cliff in Bournemouth, whilst there are also a few Marbled Whites – this one sharing a thrift with a Common Blue.
This photo, taken on 12/07/2021 at Garston Wood was sent in by John and shows three Small Skippers – two of them mating. We also had a photo from Shona on the Gallery yesterday, 14/07/2021 of Large Skippers mating at Garston Wood so for Skippers it would appear to be a good place to be.
Here are two more photos taken by Mark when he was at Alners Gorse yesterday, 02/07/2021 – a super fresh male Silver-washed Fritillary and an alternative view of mating Small Skippers!
Two more photos from Brian taken yesterday, 02/07/2021 sent in telling us:
On our Durlston transect today we came across this mating pair of Small Skippers. Seems it must be the season for such activity as they were joined by a pair of Common Red Soldier Beetles also getting “In on the Act”!
