This website only shows butterflies found in Dorset. This is a quick run-down on the Fritillaries generally, to be clear as to which you might see in Dorset:

  • Dark Green Fritillary – found quite extensively in the County
  • Duke of Burgundy – used to be classed as a Fritillary but not now considered to be in this family, though it looks like it ought to be. Found in limited Dorset locations.
  • Glanville Fritillary – not found in Dorset
  • Heath Fritillary – not found in Dorset
  • Marsh Fritillary – found in the County
  • Pearl-bordered Fritillary – extinct in Dorset since early this century
  • Silver-washed Fritillary – found quite extensively in the County
  • Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary – only known in one Dorset site, in Purbeck
  • High Brown Fritillary – not found in Dorset
  • Heath Fritillary – not found in Dorset
