Silver-studded Blues Mating. Photo: Lee Gardiner

Lee captured this unique study of Silver-studded Blues mating at Dwt’s Tadnoll Reserve on 27/06/2016.

Every aspect of this shot is beautiful, showing superb detail rarely seen and is also unusual in that mating butterflies are not often photographed in this position.

Silver-studded Blues are found from late June until early August  in the UK.

Being primarily a heath specialist, it is not surprising that its favoured food plants are the tender shoots of gorse and broom and the larvae also feed on heather and birds-foot trefoil.

Thank you Lee for sharing this photograph with Butterfly Conservation Dorset.
