On 04/09/2025 I saw half a dozen male and female Adonis Blues in the lower field at Ballard (lay-by) nectaring on knapweed. Holding on for dear life in fairly strong winds, this striking beautiful aberration stood out.

I went to Compton Down today, 25/08/2025 and saw and photographed quite a few Adonis Blues as there were loads of them there. It was only when I got home, I realised that two of my photos showed something that I thought was rather odd.

Having now seen the post from last year regarding the Adonis Blue krodeli variants, I believe that the photos I have attached are of two different females lacking different numbers of spots. I thought this would be of interest to you.

Editor’s Note: I referred these photos to one of our “verifiers” who advised that Paul is spot on with the identification of Adonis Blue ab.krodeli.

A couple of photos taken today, 21/08/2025 on the Winspit transect.  Butterfly numbers are dwindling quickly on the limestone grassland. Meadow Brown are the most numerous. Very happy to record my first Adonis Blue in three years since recording here.

A hot sunny day and plenty out and about. A well disguised Grayling and an Adonis Blue among today’s highlights.

Enjoyed an early morning today, 12/08/2025 at Fontmell Down amongst numerous Adonis Blues and Silver-spotted Skippers was fortunate to come across this, what I believe to be, Adonis Blue ab Krodeli.

On way home popped to Alner’s Gorse and captured shots of a Clouded Yellow too.

Editor’s Note:  My thanks to Mark Pike for confirming the ID of the Adonis Blue ab Krodeli.

I visited Fontmell Down for the first time in about 6 years today, 08/08/2025 and was pleased to see that the Silver-spotted Skippers seem to be doing ok, I counted 12 in all. The pair in this image did not get it together, by the looks of her abdomen she had already been visited!  Also saw this nice fresh Adonis Blue.
