Could you be our Newsletter Editor? Jane Smith has decided that after nearly ten years of undertaking this role for Dorset Branch, it is time to hand over to someone new.
In order for the newsletter to continue, we need a volunteer to take on this unpaid role. The newsletter is an important means of keeping in touch with our members, and we need our membership to help us help the butterflies.
The volunteer needs to be Branch member and to sit on the Branch Committee as it is important to be in touch with what is happening in the branch; the committee meet five or six times a year. Jane has always worked very closely with Lyn Pullen, who produces the layouts and design and Lyn can continue in this role if needed.
The role includes:-
- Sourcing articles
- Editing the received articles, following our guidelines
- Sending the edited articles to Lyn, who will create the newsletter, with minor editing to ensure fit. If the new postholder prefers to do the layout themselves, Lyn will retire from the role.
- Ensuring the newsletter is proof-read by yourself and the Chair of the Branch
- Liaising with a staff member at Butterfly Conservation HQ, who will let us know how many printed copies will be needed. They will also set up the mailing company with the necessary names and addresses.
- Arranging for the newsletter to be printed and sent to BC’s nominated company for mailing
- Arranging with HQ for an email to be sent to those wishing to receive the newsletter digitally (Lyn will upload it to the Branch website)
- Forward invoices to the Branch Treasurer, confirming that the printed copies have been received.
