Painted Lady. Photo: Warren Port
Warren says:
I took this photo of a Painted lady this morning (11/5/2025) at Dewlands Common, Verwood. The first one I have seen this year. There were also Brimstones, Speckled woods and a Green hairstreak, as well as lots of heath moths.

23 seen on Baggy Point, North-West Devon coast on 12th May – feeding up while waiting for favourable winds to head northward to Wales/Ireland – and one seen high on Exmoor (Dunkery Hill’s western col at about 1,600 ft) on 13th May. Will this be a Lady Year? Ian Hardy (BC VP)
We can but hope, but they’ve fooled us before!
