We beat the coast path closure

One of our guided walks this year was on 10 August on Bowers Quarry on the West side of Portland. It was a good day, despite the windy weather.

The group in the photo above is fascinated by a Skipper: we had to wait for it to open its wings to decide if it was a Lulworth Skipper.  It wasn’t!

Chalkhill Blues were a delight, and especially interesting, as they are not doing well elsewhere in Dorset.

Three days later Dorset Council closed the section of the coast path we walked on to access this site because of a landslip at another point on the path, so we only just made it.

We are nearly at the end of our guided walk season: just one left, on 26 August at Ballard Down near Swanage.  However, we do have a few other things going on, and we will soon be starting our Conservation Action Days, plus we have our annual Branch Members’ Day on 2 November: see our Events page for full information.
