Lunar Hornet moth eggs. Photo: Kim Butcher

Sharon Towning kindly sent us these photos of a Lunar Hornet Moth taken on 16/07/24 in her friend Kim Butcher’s Bridport garden.

Adults are not often seen, though it is the most widespread clearwing in the British Isles.

Kim must have been very pleased to see it had also laid eggs . The larva will normally overwinter twice ,feeding close to the ground in the first year and moving up to 50 cms  from the tree in the second.

It has one generation July- early August.
