What an incredible Autumn it has been for sightings of Red Admirals in Dorset and this one seen by Martin Warren in Corfe Castle on 15/11/2023 must be one of the most unexpected.

Martin was amazed to see a Red Admiral egg-laying on a patch of nettles where there were several “tents” containing small larvae and when sending in these photos he commented that you have to admire their optimism trying to fit in another generation in mid-November adding that he guessed they may even survive if it stays mild.
