There seems to be an influx of Painted Ladies happening, more to the south-east of England, but some are reaching Dorset.

To 12 May we have had ten reported in 2021, with four being 10 May and three on 11 May. Other sources recorded a further three on 11 May.

The numbers of this migrant butterfly which reach us are always highly variable. In 2019 we had reports of 4,027 to this website, while last year only 91 were recorded. Occasionally, there are years when thousands or even millions arrive.

If you see one in Dorset, please record it on our sightings page so we can keep track of this lovely butterfly.
