Here is a photo of a Small Heath, which I believe to be the first reported in Dorset this year. I saw him yesterday afternoon, 26/04/2021 at the top of Fontmell Down. He was sheltering from the breeze among the vegetation, and only flew when I startled him – then his orange upperwings made him easy to see.  I had earlier been watching the Grizzled and Dingy Skippers near the bottom of the Down, where it was a lot less breezy – they were a lot more active!

Editor’s Note:  This is the first sighting of a Small Heath reported to Dorset BC so far this year – the first one reported to us last year was seen on 22/04/2020 (4 days earlier)
