Branch matters

The coronavirus problems have forced us to temporarily change or cancel some branch activities, so this is to briefly fill you in on what is (or isn’t) happening as far as we know as of April 2021.

AGM.  This would normally have been held by now, but is now unlikely to happen in the near future.

  • The election of committee members will be postponed until the next AGM is held.
  • Branch Accounts for 2019-20 will be in Newsletter 95, which has just been published.
  • Branch Accounts for 2020-21 will be published in Newsletter 96, which will come out in autumn 2021.

Bill Shreeves’ health problems are such that he is now formally standing down as Records Officer and Robin George will take the role. Bill will not disappear, but needs to reduce his commitment.

Robin George will be standing down as Branch Membership Officer and we are delighted that  Andy Martin will be joining us as a co-opted member in this role.

We are also delighted that Paul Dexter has joined the Committee as a co-opted member.

“Butterfly Trends” Area Walkers’ Meetings have not been held.

Events. We are aiming to hold a programme of walks in summer 2021 and these are being listed on this website: there will be no printed list, given the situation regarding people coming together is still so uncertain.

We will be asking you to book if you want to come on a walk, so we can control numbers to ensure social distancing. We are hoping those who go on events might feel able to donate a small sum if they have enjoyed themselves, but there will be no formal charge.

Newsletters. We did get Newsletter 93 (Spring 2020) and Newsletter 94 (the Butterfly Report for 2019) put together in spring 2020, but were unable to post them out due to the lack of staff in the HQ building to print envelopes with the necessary addresses and postage: a system which saves us a lot of money over putting stamps on envelopes. We put the two newsletters up on the website and informed those members who had agreed to receive their copies electronically that they were available.

Towards the end of the year we returned to the problem, and they were then published and distributed. Apologies to those of you who received these late or in the wrong format: HQ are having problems with a new database, and we can all sympathise with that! they can be seen on our newsletters page.

Newsletter 95 is a combined Autumn 2020 and Spring 2021 edition, to allow us to catch up with ourselves. After that, we hope to be back on track: Newsletter 96 will be the Butterfly Report for 2020 and Newsletter 97 will be the usual Autumn edition. Newsletter 95 is now on the newsletters page.
