This year’s Moth Night(s) will be 8-10 July and will have the theme of reedbeds and wetlands, though records of night and day flying moths of all sorts will be most welcome.  How many events will will be able to hold in Dorset around Moth Night remains to be seen, given the Covid situation, but details of any we run will be listed on this website.

Any moths you record on 8, 9 or 10 July can be recorded at the Moth Night website, which also lists some of the reedbed and wetland moths you migh find, as well as the ten most-seen moths in July. For help in identifying moths in early July, you can also look at the Dorset Moth Group website – see the “common species” tab for what’s likely to be on the wing in Dorset, or there is an app called “What’s Flying Tonight” (it works on pc’s as well as smartphones).

Moth Night is organised by Atropos, Butterfly Conservation and the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology and is the annual celebration of moth recording throughout Britain and Ireland by moth recording enthusiasts.
