We’ve had the first report of a butterfly in Dorset this year: a Brimstone seen at Tarrant Hinton on 22 January. Brimstones overwinter as adults and are often among the first species to be seen if a bit of warmer weather tempts them out. The first sighting last year was on 19 January.

We had a total of 1,982 Brimstones reported to the website last year, so hopefully this is the first of many.

Please report any butterflies you see via our Recording page.
