Two photos of a beautiful, fresh Brown Argus sent in by Mark who told us:

I saw this on my transect walk yesterday, 14/09/2020 in baking hot conditions on Sovell Down. The temperature was a warm 24C but the end of the butterflying season is nigh and apart from a dozen or so Whites of varying types the only other species seen were a Brimstone and a zippy little Small Copper.

At the very end of the transect I spotted that tell-tale flicker of silvery light that heralds the approach of a Brown Argus. It stopped just in front of me, pirouetted to turn into the sun and opened its wings for my photos which were taken with my iPhone 8.
