Rob sent us this photo of a Comma he saw on 26/06/2020 on a bridleway at King Down, ST983034, just over one mile east of Badbury Rings whilst hunting for Elm trees for Nigel Spring’s survey. Rob also included the following comments:
Found this comma on the trunk of a dead elm tree. The Comma is head down. Is this the default position for resting and roosting butterflies? The symmetry of the two wings can be clearly seen. I have seen more Commas this week than ever before and have found them on west facing sunlit woodland clearings on patrol and along many hedgerows. They are often chased by Large Skippers and Silver-washed Fritillaries.
