The UK Butterfly Monitoring Scheme organisers have announced that transect walking may resume, with certain precautions.

Transect walks are walks where butterflies are counted under certain conditions, to make the results more scientifically comparable over time. Dorset has a lot of transect walks, giving us some very valuable data to help us know how the various species are doing.

Walking had to stop because of the Covid-19 precautions, but UKBMS has just announced that walks can start again. Obviously, all government instructions about social distancing must still be observed, so please read the full details which have just been sent out. These instructions apply to England only.
