On her walk at Corfe Hills South on 09/04/2020, Shona told us she saw at least 4 Speckled Woods in a small wooded area. The first photo she believes to be of a perching male and the second one to be a female who was a little further along the path.  Shona added that she also saw pairs of Speckled Woods spiralling into the air several times.
Female Speckled Woods are larger than the males and have larger cream patches.  The depth of their chocolate colour is variable in both sexes with some being darker than others – the first emergence of them each year tends to be paler than those that emerge later.
