A sparkling coloured micro moth

Esperia Sulphurella. Photo: Paul Harris

Paul posted this on Twitter after trapping it in Upwey on 13/04/20 and has kindly given us permission to use any of his photos on our gallery.

Esperia Sulphurella, a micro moth which is absolutely stunning  especially when photographed with a muted flash as Paul has used to show the amazing colours on this tiny creature.

It is single brooded April-June, flies in the morning and comes to light.

Its larva is found in decaying wood, tree bark, rotting fence posts, as well as decaying hard fungus.
