Duke of Burgundy in Sherborne

Very tatty orange and brown butterfly on a daisy-like flower

This very tired-looking Duke of Burgundy turned up in a very surprising place:Sherborne Boys School. It was Simon Ford, of the National Trust, who alerted us to it.

There are very few colonies of the Duke in Dorset, the main one being on the Giant Hill at Cerne Abbas; Sherborne is not a known stronghold! As the butterfly isn’t telling us how he (or she) got there, we’ll never know.
