Olly spotted this freshly emerged Orange tip at Hampreston on 19/04/18. He says he was sorry he didn’t have his camera with him, but this is a great photo taken with his mobile phone.
It is the first photo of an Orange tip submitted to Dorset BC this year, they are a little late due mainly to the bad weather in March and early April.
This is most definitely a male, as the diagnostic orange tips can be seen through the wings. Females have white uppersides and a beautiful green pattern to their underside wings, making them difficult to differentiate from Small and Green-veined Whites when in flight.
