It’s nearly the end of February, and we’ve already had 34 butterflies reported to the website. Those 34 comprised of four species:
- Red Admiral – 20 sightings
- Peacock – 7
- Small Tortoiseshell – 4 sightings
- Brimstone – 3 sightings
It’s worth following our Recent Sightings page if you don’t already do so: it gives a graphical representation of the comparative numbers of each species seen over the last 30 days, the record details for the most recent of these and a map showing where the butterflies have been recorded. Then at the bottom of the page are links to a summary for the year so far, plus a link to the full website archives – a real treasure trove.
