View of a Dingy Skipper nectaring on a purple flower with outspread wings

Dingy Skipper. Photo: Andy Martin

Andy photographed this second generation Dingy Skipper at Ulwell near Swanage on  16/08/17.

He was pleased to spot it and get a photograph as it was a first for him. Its always exciting to find a species not seen before.

The caterpillar foodplant is Birds-foot Trefoil. This butterfly is on the wing from late April- mid June in one brood but in hot summers there is a possible partial second brood  occurring in southern England.
