Join us for the 2016 Dorset Butterfly Race.

Last year, five teams of enthusiasts took part in our first Dorset Butterfly Race. It was great fun and we saw a good number of butterflies, as well as having the opportunity to explore areas of Dorset that we wouldn’t normally visit (and to test the footpath system!). We managed to obtain records from many empty ‘white holes’ where there had been no previous records – which was very gratifying. See our report on the 2015 event

We are repeating the event at the end of July and are looking for teams of two or more who would like to take part. These are the  Butterfly Race Rules  which are pretty much the same except as last year, except that we have extended the recording period to 4pm. This is in the hope that those days at the end of July will beautifully warm and sunny and all the butterflies will still be flying between 3 and 4pm! We will find you an area to search that is as near to where you live as we can, unless you tell us you want to go elsewhere.

This weekend is part of the Big Butterfly Count so it would be good to get as many teams involved in this as possible. Let Nigel Spring know if you would like to take part so that he can start allocating squares…

If you are interested, please contact Nigel Spring on 01963 32559 or 07981 776767 or [email protected]
