Alners comes up trumps again

We have four Butterfly Reserves in Dorset, all of which have their attractions, but Alners gathers the most attention at this time of year because of its Hairstreaks. A guided walk there on 5 August, led by Martin Warren,drew 30 people, and was described as “superb” despite showers.

Are you missing out on our guided walks?

Sunday 15 May saw the arrival at Cerne Abbas Giant Hill of 44 walkers from Dorset, Devon, Somerset, London and Cambridgeshire to take part in the guided tour for the day, a mixture of novices and experts sharing enthusiasm for the butterflies seen. Continue reading

Brilliant weekend at Alners Gorse

Our Spring event at Alners Gorse Butterfly Reserve on 7 and 8 May  was the best attended yet, with at least 48 people joining in all or part of the weekend’s activities: the camping and BBQ, a dawn walk with the Nightingales, the analysis of the moth catch and the butterfly walk later in the morning. 13 people met at our Alners Gorse Butterfly Reserve on Saturday April 16th for an introduction to the butterfly transect there. The temperature barely broke into double figures and the ground was uncomfortably muddy. Continue reading
