Are you signed up to Gift Aid? All Butterfly Conservation members who pay tax should be signed up to Gift Aid - it costs the individual nothing, but increases the value of their donations and subscriptions by 28%! Gift Aid is a government scheme which allows charities like Butterfly Conservation to claim money from the Inland Revenue against the subscriptions and donations from its members. It works like this: You sign a Gift Aid form (or just tell the Society you are willing to be signed up - by telephone or e-mail if that is easier) Butterfly Conservation claims the sum allowable from the Inland Revenue That's it! The only "rule" is that you have to be paying enough tax to cover the amount the Society will claim - so to cover your subscription of £22 a year, you should be paying at least £6.16 in tax per year (which isn't difficult for most of us!). At the moment, Butterfly Conservation is allowed to claim not only this year's tax, but the last two year's as well (assuming you have been a member this long) - this means that for one signature, Butterfly Conservation can claim over £18, with no cost or inconvenience to you. 50% of Butterfly Conservation's membership are not currently signed up to Gift Aid, representing £50,000 the Society could claim from the tax man to help butterflies and moths! If you are not sure whether you are signed up, or have any queries, please contact Butterfly Conservation Headquarters on 01929 400209 or info@butterfly-conservation.org. Your next step: Thank you. |
